Overview

  • Become an effective advocate or ally for First Nation peoples and cultures and develop the relevant knowledge and cognitive skills to work with Indigenous communities in a culturally appropriate way.
  • The First Nations Australia major allows you to explore First Nations issues, protocols, and philosophy, and examines decolonisation and Indigenous standpoint theory. 
  • Graduates from this major will become culturally aware, responsible, and active individuals who have a grounded understanding of the past and present experiences of First Nation peoples. 
  • You can combine your studies with another major in the Bachelor of Multidisciplinary Studies or courses from other disciplines across the University, such as social work, human services, history, or environment and sustainability to meet your desired career path.

Career outcomes

  • You may find work in government, the private sector, and with Indigenous communities in relation to policy and planning, community development, education, or advocacy.
  • You’ll be able to offer insights into a range of social priorities, health, community and industry priorities related to First Nations perspectives.

Entry requirements

Pre-requisites

To study this degree we assume you have sound knowledge in:

  • English (Units 3 & 4, C) 

We assume that your knowledge is equivalent to a grade C or higher in Units 3 and 4 at high school level (typically studied in Year 12). Find out more about assumed knowledge.

English language requirements

You are required to meet the applicable English language requirements and this degree requires a minimum of IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each subscore. HQporner also accepts other English language proficiency tests.

Recognition of prior learning or work experience
